My wife and I have 10 birds in one room, one of whom is Lucky, a Mealy
Amazon, who has owned us for about 25 years. As most Mealys do, he
screams just before sunset. He also screams incessantly when my wife
enters the room, or when it is night and there is light shining into
his room from the hallway. I would like to know if this incessant
screaming behavior is normal or borderline psychotic. Is he, as my
wife thinks, calling to the flock - with my wife being part of the
flock?
Also, would misting him twice daily with lukewarm water be bad for him
in any way? We are trying to keep the feather dust and seed dust down
to a minimum.
He is also semi-wild. He was caught in the wild and never properly
tamed. With a bird this age, how would we go about making him as tame
and trained as possible?
We love our birds, but Lucky is our big stumbling block and we are
eager to know what we can do to make his life better.
